Features

  • engaging visual novel
  • distinctive style
  • relatable scenarios
  • lo-fi beats

In One New Message, players navigate the daily life of a student. As they do so they are challenged:

  • to recognize when they are stressed-out;
  • to apply various coping strategies to help them manage their stress; and
  • to make better decisions once their stress levels have been reduced and they can respond more reasonably.

The student in One New Message is very excited because they have just won a trip to summer camp -- this is something that they have always wanted to do!

But before they can attend camp, first they have to successfully navigate conversations and potential problems at home, school, their job, with their friends, and more.

☆ Can you help them realize their dream of going to camp?

The player makes dialogue choices when texting with others but sometimes the available responses are not ideal.

Fortunately the player has the option to come up with better responses!

Rather than responding with their initial responses, they have the option to "check in with themselves" by taking a step back. This helps them to realize they are stressed out and that their first thoughts about responding might be self-destructive.

Recognizing and acknowledging their stress gives them some space to re-consider better ways to respond. And fortunately there are in-game activities that will help them to lower those stress levels. Players may choose to engage in one of the many coping strategies available to them in the game.

If they decide to use one of the coping strategies, the de-stressed player should find themselves in a much better position to respond constructively. And as a result, new dialogue options are now available on their phone!

BONUS: Tips & examples are offered to the player to demonstrate how to effectively apply these in-game coping strategies should the player find themselves stressed-out in the real world.
