Escape Your Boyfriend's Room (2008)
Escape Your Boyfriend's Room
Escape Your Boyfriend's Room is the winning game of the 2008 Life.Love. Game Design Challenge. It is a game intentionally designed to increase awareness and provide educational information in order to help prevent teen dating violence.
Did you know?
February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Month!
In 2008, the first annual Life.Love. Game Design Challenge was held. This annual game design competition challenges game designers to create non-violent video games that will help to prevent teen dating violence.
For this first of our annual game design challenges, Escape Your Boyfriend's Room won First Place. The game was developed using Flash, a popular software development platform at the time. Unfortunately, support for Flash ended in 2020.
As a result of Flash no longer receiving support, this game has not been publicly available for years. We are very pleased to be able to share it with you once again!
Please Note
Although the title of this game is about escaping from a boyfriend's room, abuse can happen to anybody regardless of gender, orientation, or age.
Also, humor can be a useful way to make media more compelling - and this game does include some humor. The game also has a light-hearted tone which fits well with its overall design. The use of humor and a light-hearted tone does not mean that teen dating violence is not a serious topic, because it is! However, we believe that using humor and a playful aesthetic helps us do a better job of engaging folks about serious issues.
We hope that you find this long-lost game from 2008 to be both helpful and enjoyable to play!
About: Escape Your Boyfriend's Room
This is an escape-style video game.
The player has been asked by their boyfriend to take care of the boyfriend's pet mouse while the boyfriend is away. Once inside the boyfriend's bedroom, the player is challenged to find clues in the room that will allow them to escape. As the player searches the room for clues they will discover some of the warning signs of a potentially abusive relationship.
The player will also learn the toll-free number for the National Dating Abuse Helpline, a U.S. based helpline available 24/7 for callers seeking assistance or advice about teen dating violence.
Escape Your Boyfriend's Room was developed by Jorge Goyco of Goyco Design. The game was produced by Jennifer Ann's Group® and is published by Life Love Publishing™.

A Special Thank You
We are very grateful to the communities and people who have worked hard to develop tools that make Flash content available again. It would be much harder for us to make our Flash games available in your web browser without the tremendous work by the many people responsible for ruffle and Flashpoint Archive.
Escape Your Boyfriend's Room is one of many prosocial games from the Gaming Against Violence™ program, an award-winning and evidence-based approach to violence prevention through video games. Gaming Against Violence is one of several progams developed and offered by Jennifer Ann's Group®, a 501(c)(3) charity.
Donations supporting our work are fully deductible to the extent allowed by law.
