New Sun was developed by Colmena Games of Colombia. It is the 2nd place winning game from our 2022 game design challenge which focused on the theme of resilience.
New Sun is an engaging, thought-provoking, and timely story about resilience and family.
An older sister with two younger siblings are isolated during a planetary lockdown. Players are tasked with helping these three characters cope with isolation, fear, and anger.
By selecting and assigning activities to help these siblings, players will help them cope with their situation. And by doing so, players will come to learn more about how they can help themselves and others when coping with adversity and challenge.
New Sun contains some frightening themes but is otherwise appropriate for players of all ages.
New Sun is the fourth resilience video game published for the Gaming Against Violence program.

Ellie was on her way to work when the chaos broke out in the colony.
The government's instructions were clear:
No one may leave their domes.
Ellie had to pick up her younger siblings, Nazha and Rob, from school.
Then they needed to grab supplies and rush to the safety of their dome.
Then they had to deal with the stress, anxiety, and boredom of lockdown.
The award winning video game, New Sun opens with this challenge to players:
Help these siblings cope during a lockdown.
As the story unfolds, players will learn what these siblings are dealing with. Players will also see the impact that this situation has on Ellie and her younger siblings, Nazha and Rob.
Players are tasked with helping these three young people cope with their boredom, their fears, and each other.
How to Play
Select Select a character and look at their status. Are they anxious? Are they bored? Are they angry?
Observe Select one of the available activities in the dome for that character. Evaluate the activities and consider which will help support that character's mental and emotional health.
To review the benefits for an activity, simply point your mouse at an activity station in the dome and a description of the benefits of that activity will appear.
Assign Choose the activity that you think will be the most helpful for each character based on the story and based on that character's current status.
Execute After you have assigned an activity to each character, select the "Do Activity" button. All characters will then engage in their assigned activities.
TIP You can assign more than one character to an activity. Try different family combinations to see how these characters might interact with each other during their activities.
